Welcome to The Debenham Group Practice
Welcome to our surgery website where we hope you will quickly benefit from a user friendly layout and a wealth of information about your healthcare services.
Grundisburgh Car Park
Due to essential maintenance work being carried out on the car park, Grundisburgh Surgery will be closed on Thursday 18th & Friday 19th May.
The normal Friday morning clinic has been moved to Otley Surgery for patient convenience.
We advise patients to put in their repeat prescription request a few days earlier than normal and collect before Wednesday 17th May 1.00 pm. Alternatively arrangements have been made for patients to be able to collect their medication from Otley Surgery during these 2 days of closure.
We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause
At Debenham Group Practice, we would like to update you with regard to recent developments at your surgery and outline our current plans and aspirations for the continued provision of the highest possible levels of care and service to our local community. As evidenced on an almost daily basis in the media, the NHS as a whole is facing increasing need and demand against a background of diminishing resource and funding.
It is regrettable that we have to announce that Dr Philip Stewart has left the practice. We would like to reassure all of our patients that steps have already being taken in order to mitigate any potential reduction in the overall level of service being provided by the practice.
In addition to prioritising immediate needs, in recognition of the decline in the number of GP’s working in General Practice, we are at this point also looking longer term. The GP partners and management team have already held initial meetings to review our business plan and clinical model, and as with other local GP surgeries across the county such as ourselves, we are looking at ways in which we can be proactive both as Debenham Group Practice and also as part of a larger group.
As recently reported in the press, along with 12 other GP Practices, discussions are progressing well with regard to the formation of a group under the name of Suffolk Primary Care, where we will be working in close cooperation with colleagues, sharing resources and ensuring best practice is adopted to both protect what we already have as well as build for the future.
Through liaison with our Patient Participation Group and Healthwatch, we will be engaging with our patients throughout the coming months to both consult and advise. The way in which health care is currently being provided is under extreme pressure and scrutiny and we need to balance expectation with practicality.
The GP partners, together with our staff, are determined to do all we can to ensure that your current and future health care needs are provided for in the best possible way. This will undoubtedly require some changes to be made, but please be assured that our focus and priority will always be our patients.

In order to continue to provide a high level of care and service to our patients, the doctors and staff attend monthly training and education afternoons organised by the Ipswich & East Suffolk CCG. As a consequence, the whole surgery will therefore be closing on the afternoon of the following days in 2017.
- Wednesday 7 June 2017
- Thursday 13 July 2017
- Thursday 7 September
- Wednesday 4 October
- Thursday 16 November 2017
- Wednesday 13 December 2017
On these days, from 1.00pm, as the entire practice will be closed, you will not be able to contact the practice by telephone. All urgent calls will be dealt with by the Out of Hours Service Provider, Care UK. As you will not be able to collect your medication on these afternoons, please make arrangements to collect at another time, thank you.
